It is my distinct honor and privilege to serve the great students and staff of this historic institution of quality education. I have been fortunate to work in the BanningUnifiedSchool District as a teacher and as an administrator at the middle and high school level. My experience has shown me that it takes a collaborative and united team to help all students reach their maximum potential. As a school community, we will all strive to motivate and guide each of our students to pursue current and future success.
This is truly an exciting time for our school. Before us we have a grand opportunity to reinvent and re-energize our school and its programs while at the same time restore Bronco Pride and continue and create traditions. It is critical at Banning High School to establish and sustain a culture of high expectations. BHS successfully completed the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation process in 2014 in which the school received a six-year accreditation. Curriculum across all departments is either already aligned (ELA and Math) or in transition to be aligned with the new California common core standards (Science and History). The teachers at BHS enthusiastically guide students through rigorous and rewarding high school coursework. My administrative team and I will work collaboratively with the teachers to provide a strong academic program where all students can feel successful.
Banning High School has a tradition of excellent co-curricular programs. It is my hope that all students get involved in our school through athletics, music, color guard, theater, academic competitions, Safe School Ambassadors, peer mediation, Link Crew, school newspaper, yearbook, ASB, activities, and clubs. What makes this high school great is the plethora of opportunities that are afforded to our students. Working together we can ensure that the students of BHS continue to achieve to their highest potential in any school sponsored activity. Your help and support are greatly appreciated during the school year as we work to maintain and build our many programs.
In 2015-2016 BHS will fully implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports program (PBIS). Expectations of students and staff around campus and in classrooms will focus on positive interactions as well as a high level of expectations and conduct in all areas and situations. Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible! Students will feel comfortable in a school where the focus is on learning in a setting that is geared toward student success.
Students: I am challenging you to ask yourself these three questions:
What is your passion?
What is your purpose?
What are your priorities?
As you begin and continue your journey through high school, for many of you, the answers to the above questions may come easy. For some, you haven't given much thought to what ignites your inner spark.Now is the time to have answers to these questions, explore the answers, and challenge yourself to develop priorities, goals, and take action. Now is the time! Students who have a passion and purpose are more engaged in school, connected to school, make positive friendships, experience a greater level of academic success than those who have yet to find a connection to school, and overall they enjoy their high school experiences more so.
I look forward to working with the students, staff, and community to continue the traditions of excellence at Banning High School. We are geared up to keep the momentum going as we create new memories, reach for new goals, and persevere through new challenges.
